October 2014 Mini-Tour + New member!

Vera June is almost a year old! Which, of course, means she can carry her own weight now and mom and dad have an excess of free time again… Thus, Finn Riggins fired up the engines in August and we have been rehearsing and writing AND we’ve added a BASS PLAYER. Yes, the time has finally come for more low end. Finn Riggins is now a quartet! Our good friend Travis Ward (Hillfolk Noir, Junkyard Bandstand, Doug Martsch Trio, basketball buddy, chronic Ranch Fester, neighbor) has jumped on the Finn Riggins train and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Come welcome him to the team at one of the handful of Fall shows we’re playing in the region.

Boise 150 + KEOL Fest + KYRS Music Fest + final show before baby baby break August 1st

lisa shredsIf you’re tuning in late, refer to the previous post about Lisa being pregnant and Finn Riggins taking a baby baby break after a few more shows this summer… Well, we now know that Lisa will be having a girl! Very very very very very very excited. XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

All the shows so far this Summer, Ranch Fest, etc have been incredible and so much fun — been great seeing you all! We have just a handful left, and we will be playing our final show before this indefinite baby baby break on August 1st — exactly 7 years since we packed up from Moscow, Idaho and moved to Hailey and started this whole Finn Riggins journey of endless tours around the country, 1000+ shows and countless amazing adventures with all of you. We are incredibly grateful for all of the support and good times over the years. As of now, a little unknown what the future holds for this band, but we’re all embracing a future with it and the intention is to write and record an album in our downtime, most likely inspired to some degree by the new spark we will soon birth into this world.ranch fest april pope mantha

We’re playing this Sunday (July 7th) in Boise at Julia Davis Park as part of a big Boise 150 celebration as this great city is now 150 years old. Honored to be included in the festivities and we’ll be rocking the bandshell at 1pm, right before the Mayor speaks — opening for the Mayor! After that, we’re playing two college/community radio festivals next weekend. July 12th KEOL Fest in La Grande and July 13th KYRS Music Fest in Spokane. Then our final show will be at Neurolux in Boise on August 1st. For the occasion we’ve coerced our longtime friend, conspirator and fellow instigator of good times and wild ideas — the legendary JARED MEES — to come out and play this show with us. It’ll make for a fantastically wild evening no doubt. Plus our good friend LIONSWEB will open the show and Tyler Walker will be doing projections.

We can’t think of a better way to go out — with all of our homeys here in Boise — and invite you all to join us for this last hurrah before the beginning of a new chapter in the adventures of Finn Riggins.

Ranch Fest! new summer dates announced! baby baby break!

Soooo… we’ve been sitting on some awesome news that we finally get to share with you… Our resident rock goddess, guitar slayer, the one and only Lisa Simpson is with child. Yes yes! Lisa and Gilbert are pregnant and having their first child, which we’re collectively all besides ourselves with excitement and curiosity. Baby is due in November.

What does this mean for Finn Riggins as a band? It means that we are going to take the longest break from live shows we’ve taken since starting the band in August of 2006. We’re going to use the opportunity to settle in to the practice space and the studio and finish and write and record a new album. It’s a phase we’re very much looking forward to. But as you all know, we love the road and love playing live and hanging out with all of you. So we’ve booked a series of shows in nearby places to celebrate with y’all. Our last show before the baby break will be sometime mid-July, so come see us before then if you can. Most of the dates are posted below, there will be a couple more additions soon.

Also, RANCH FEST is almost here and it’s going to be the best yet. Lineup this year is amazing and the weather will be outstanding. Some new bands to the Ranch this year include Portland psychedelia masterminds Eternal Tapestry, Bay Area electronic/psych project Mwahaha, and one of our favorite bands as of late, the amazing AU. Many more great additions this year and plenty of the classic Ranch favorites (Tartufi, Hillfolk Noir, Le Fleur, Holiday Friends, etc) — see the full lineup over on the Ranch Fest facebook page. If you plan on coming, please RSVP via the RSVP link which will also help get you dialed in to all the details.
