had an absolutely amazing time at SXSW. been heading East since… very excited to be back out in these parts. played at JJ’s Bohemia in Chattanooga last night. so fun. spent the afternoon yesterday shooting live acoustic videos in an old abandoned YMCA. very curious to see how those turn out. shot in old empty pool. on a spanish style roof. in an old basketball gym. and running around playing through the halls. more on that soon.
in the meantime, you can read the full report on our SXSW experience that i sent to the Idaho Statesman here: Finn Riggins at SXSW 2010
here are some photos that our buddy Ryan Dornfeld just sent along:

PS if you haven’t already seen this video of “Pancakes” from our 2-6-10 Portland, OR show at Tribute Gallery… check it out.
just successfully traversed HWY 1 between Monterrey, CA and Santa Barbara, CA despite mudslides and blockades and absolutely epic scenery… stoked for our show at Muddy Waters tonight in Santa Barbara! i’m currently in the backseat of our swift hearted travel beast Ghost Ghost and was marveling at this blog post of Lloyd Winter IV’s and wanted to share… some nice photos and a walk through of the process that he and Santiago Uceda went through in hand-printing the epic tour posters they’ve sent along with us on this monster lap around the US. check it out… split fountain mountains
also, our friend and kind hostess in Eugene — Cara Merendino — posted a nice blog about our time together in Eugene last sunday and monday morning… including a video of us playing Pancakes in the cozy KWVA studios. very cool. mouth trumpet and other shenanigans in eugene
tour’s been great thus far. thanks for all the kind kind folks along the way for the home cooked food and awesome company. very thankful for all the generosity!
also worth noting is that the Boise Weekly is hosting tour diaries of local Treasure Valley bands now and we’re essentially hosting the pilot episode. look forward to seeing more local bands involved as well!
Cruising into Ashland, OR where we’ll be playing a free show at Caldera Tap House tonight…. thrown together this morning after the house party we were going to play got cancelled due to a sick resident of the host house. Caldera have invited Finn Riggins and Boy Eats Drum Machine to crash their “open jam night” and we couldn’t be more excited…. have played many great shows here and thankful that we get to rock with our Ashland friends tonight.
this tour couldn’t have gotten off on a better foot… halfway thru our drive to Seattle on Thursday for the first show of tour we got word that we’d been added to the official SXSW festival lineup. very exciting news. and coupled with several other showcases and parties we’re playing that week in Austin it should be a wild wild time. show that night at The Sunset in Seattle was rad. kicked off this 3 week stretch we’re doing with our labelmate BOY EATS DRUM MACHINE who’s certainly added to the coziness of the van, but also been a serious contribution to the dance party mission that we’re continuously dedicated to. Seattle locals THE GLOBES were stellar once again. love playing with them. check out what the Seattle Weekly had to say about the show.
Friday in Bellingham was at this incredible place called Jinx Art Space that was basically like playing the art studio basement of all of your favorite artists all in one. it was huge and the coolest basement show ever! locals ROOFTOPS and NO-FI SOUL REBELLION were incredible and most gracious hosts. so fun.
Saturday we helped Boy Eats Drum Machine celebrate his new album “Hoop + Wire” at the Doug Fir in Portland. locals BROTHERS YOUNG opened. incredible night. pretty much a packed house and we got to run around with all of our Portland pals. fantastic Portland send off for the rest of tour. here’s a video of DeTamble Wings from our set that night. watch?v=IXS9OMtuVvU
Yesterday we rocked some afternoon airtime on KWVA 88.1 FM Eugene with DJ Bonecrusher and DJ Karma. it was pretty wild and boisterous. got some soggy park time in afterwards in the spring like weather. good sunday night crowd at The Muse Lounge last night and our local hosts ON THE TUNDRA were awesome and took great care of us. very fun show. fog machine. projections. and good company. partied under the full moon until nearly sunrise with our friends from KWVA and the Oregon Voice. woke up to home cooked amazing breakfast by our generous host Cara. epic. damn great start to tour. spirits are high and we welcome March 1st with open arms.
tomorrow starts the 8 day California leg of tour… we love California…. we’re looking forward to sunshine and beachtime. but first, Ashland. the moon’s still big, and Ashland has a knack for wackiness….
