FINN_SEA_05

it’s been yet another incredible year for us finn rigginses, and it’s not even over yet. our tour continues tomorrow with a show in one of our hometowns — ‘ol Hailey, ID — and then next Wednesday we head to Salt Lake City again and on to Colorado for about 10 days. we have lots of thanks to spread around, so much so that we can’t fathom to cover everyone that deserves our gratitude, so i’ll start with a blanket statement thanking everyone that has supported us this year or anytime along this path we’ve been on for the last few years. thank you for whatever tiny or large contribution you’ve made to the wind in our sails. we couldn’t continue to throw ourselves whole-heartedly into this crazy musical adventure if it weren’t for all of you. so thank you. we have hugs for you next time we see each other. and we hope we see each other soon.

more specifically, and most recently, we’d like to give a huge thanks to Doug, Brett, Brett, Scott and Jim of BUILT TO SPILL for inviting us to tour with them and for being so generous with their time, ears FINN_SEA2_01and support. the 8 shows we played with them around the NW a week ago were 8 of the most incredible shows we’ve had the honor of playing. really incredible group of people they attract and we had the time of our lives. also thanks to the kind Swiss folks of DISCO DOOM and to Jason Albertini for all of his kind words and support and sick bass playing. and to Ian Waters and Steve Gere for their efforts behind the soundboard. and of course to our new friend Tyler Kohlhoff who bravely jumped in the van for most of the tour snapping photos (all of the ones in this post) and providing general entertainment, good vibes and real talk to the core. and thanks to Rachael for enduring the whole of our fall tour and for helping out with merch and photos and for doing the best in keeping this tour blog somewhat fresh.

also huge thanks to Jared and Brianne Mees who have championed us from the beginning and continue to do so with all of their Tender Loving might and good will. they have become two of our bestest friends and family and thus we start each day thanking our lucky stars to be working with such kind and amazing people in this incredible endeavor. may Tender Loving Empire continue to flourish and spread goodness around the land.

some of our newest teammates that we owe bunches of high fives and thank yous to are Joan Hiller Depper and her mighty assistant Nathan Walker for all of their efforts trumpeting to the press world FINN_SEA2_08about our new album and tour and overall mission. we’re very thankful to be in the fun-loving hands of this very cute Riot Act Media team. we love them. we wished we lived closer to them. real talk.

also like to acknowledge the home team here in Boise of Sam and Anneliessa and the Visual Arts Collective for everything that it brings to the music and art scene here in the Treasure Valley. and for their role in helping to inspire and record our new album. and huge thanks to Steve Fulton and Pat Storey and AudioLab for providing the space, gear and guidance to make it all happen. and of course all of the local bands and musicians here that help feed the fire, as well as all the regular show goers that do their part in supporting the local music scene.

we would also like to thank all of the great artists we’ve been blessed to work with along the way… the man behind all of our album art as well as a lot of the t-shirts and stickers and posters — Lloyd E 10-9-09 CD Release at VACWinter IV. thank you so much. thanks to Kevin Fitzpatrick aka KMF Illustration for designing this website and for some poster work as well. huge thanks to Jason Sievers for the amazing stop-animation video he did for Wake as well as several posters. thanks to Julia Green for all the posters she’s done for us both present and past. that also goes for Santiago Uceda and James Lloyd. and thanks to Erin Cunningham for her collaboration with Julia Green for the epic “duel” album release party poster. and thanks to Joseph Von Stengel for the live digital mash-up projections he adds to our show when he can as well as some videos. and to the fine photographers we’ve been lucky enough to work with recently: Sam Guerrero, Tyler Kohlhoff, Bobby McHugh, Sarah Ann Curtis and Abigail Rickertsen

Short update…

Nov 21st, 2009 Posted in News, finn riggins | No Comments »

Hey guys and gals,
Just thought I’d post a quick update, we’re on the road right now going from Seattle to Spokane for the last Finn Riggins/Built to Spill/Disco Doom show at the Knitting Factory tonight. It’s hard to describe the awesomeness that has happened in the past week. It’s a total culture shock, but the kind I’m sure we could all get used to.

Vancouver was, by far, my favorite show out of all the concerts. It was at the Commodore Ballroom, which was INSANELY huge, we all watched Built to Spill and Disco Doom play from the side of the stage, and from a little hole up above where the green rooms were that allowed for an awesome view of the crowd and the band! It’s been awesome getting to know the other bands as well, they are all amazing people from pretty diverse backgrounds, and it’s nice to be around. We’ve also had a few additions to most of this leg of the tour; Steve Gere from Boise has been doing Finn Riggins/Disco Doom’s sound for the shows, and Tyler Kohlhoff has been along hanging out and taking AMAZING pictures. I’m sure we’ll be posting some of his photos on here as soon as they are available. Our little road family has been a ton of fun to hang out with, it’s definitely added that “special something” to the tour.

I’m stoked to have some days off for Thanksgiving in Sun Valley, but I’m pretty sad that this leg of tour is ending. Finn Riggins seems to be getting great responses from the crowds, and in general this entire experience has been pretty positive for everyone I think!

Anyway, car sickness is setting in, so I must go before I hurl all over Cam, who is snoozing next to me. :)

Love, Rachael

day 4 tour with Built To Spill // crazy halloween video

Nov 16th, 2009 Posted in News, finn riggins | No Comments »

first three shows with BUILT TO SPILL and DISCO DOOM in the bag. pretty incredible experience thus far. Eugene was really wild last night and both Portland shows were awesome, especially the second night… not to play favorites, but it definitely stepped it all up a notch…. so good to see so many old and new friends. been loving playing, but been really excited about seeing BTS so many times in a row. such an amazing band. each night very different and what a catalog of rad songs! very thankful for them giving us this opportunity and for treating us so kindly….

enjoying a day off in Portland today… head to Bellingham tomorrow, then up to Vancouver, BC which we’re really excited for… then a couple of Seattle shows and we wrap it all up in Spokane on Saturday. so very exciting. also, hope you’ve been enjoying the fun perspective that Rachael’s been providing in to the Finn Riggins adventureland…

this video from our Halloween backyard show in Las Cruces was just called to my attention. not much for visuals, but the audio is pretty awesome and hilarious. it was a wild night. here’s an audio glimpse. this is MAHONEY. it was the end of our set as midnight was rolling around in the chilly New Mexican air…

love you all,
gilbert

Finn Riggins Fall Tour (part deux, section b.)

Nov 15th, 2009 Posted in News, finn riggins | No Comments »

Hi all!
This past weekend was a total blast (just as I predicted), we got to hang out with tons of amazing Portland friends (I predicted this also), AND I got to use an oversized pro tennis backpack to transport a case of PBR (I ALSO predicted this, somehow). Before you say “hold on, Nostradamus, there’s no way of predicting THAT” I will tell you that Portland always treats us amazing, and therefore I knew something as amazing as PBR in a tennis backpack would happen. BAM! I am also predicting AS YOU ARE READING THIS, that the movie “2012″ will be a total hit because people suck and want to see awful overdramatized movies, but the “actual” 2012 worldwide catastrophe might actually happen. It’s just science, people. Solar flares!… we’re at the end of a shotgun barrel full of Solar Flares. I saw it on the Discovery Channel; I don’t make this stuff up.

Also, if you read this 3000 year old Mayan tablet that I dug up, it obviously says “2012=Solar Flare=Imminent Death=Burning Black Holes” The facts are all around us.
mayan writing

But anyhoo! On to topics we can actually control… Finn Riggins played The Wonder Ballroom in Portland on Friday and Saturday night (both shows were sold out I believe), and both shows were a total blast. Great music, great times, great people. What more could you ask for? Nothing. You can’t ask for anything else, you gluttons! You would overdose on amazing and start puking rainbows, and no one wants to see that. We drove to Eugene this afternoon for a show at the WoW, which will start shortly. Tomorrow is a day off in Portland, then we are going north to WA and B.C.! More relevant information and stories about tour will come shortly. I really just wanted to tell everyone about 2012, because it’s sooo important and really worrisome.

I’d still like to end this entry on a happy note…so…here you go.

Finn Riggins Fall Tour (part deux)

Nov 12th, 2009 Posted in News, finn riggins | No Comments »

Finn Riggins kicked off the 2nd part of their fall tour this week (after an extensive two and a half day break), playing two shows in Boise, at BSU Tuesday night with Spondee (who we love), and at the Neurolux last night! The evening ended at the trusty but instantly regrettable (so, not so trusty?) Los Betos (holler at your 2 pound bean and cheese bomb!) with Sam from the VAC (who we also love very much). This post is littered with parentheses so far. I pity the reader (“I had to re-read the first stupid paragraph four times for it to make sense in my brain”- You)

Moving right along, we spent most of the day driving up to the Riggins’ old stomping ground, Moscow for a show at John’s Alley (can I get a “what what” raise the roof motion for J.A. going non-smoking?) Tonight I realized that it’s walls are actually very intricately painted, something I never noticed before due to the constant head-level smog that surrounded all patrons. This place has become such a gem! Dreams really do come true!

We’re staying with our buddy Mary tonight, then tomorrow we’re off to “officially” begin the Finn Riggins/Built to Spill/Disco Doom tour that will take us to Thanksgiving. Christmas came early this year, because how fun are these next few weeks going to be? Super duper fun. I’m not actually being sarcastic with that statement, I’m super excited for Finn Riggins to hopefully become the next N*Sync after this BTS tour, and rake in tons of dough, and get their own tour bus that will be decked out with smores fondue fountains, pixie stick hot tubs, and of course, candy cane cabinets (ugh, I’m awful). Either way, I’m excited for the experience.

Just to give you a visual, the dream bus will probably look something like this: PeepBus

I guess that’s all I was really trying to get at.

We’ll be in Portland for the next few days! That too!

More to come, guys and gals.

love,
Rachael

Finn Riggins: A Photo Essay

Nov 4th, 2009 Posted in News, finn riggins | 1 Comment »

Hey guys and gals!

I know it has been too long since this has been updated (my bad guys, I know we have internet in the van now, but I get car sick if I even try to do this while riding. That’s my lame excuse and I’m sticking with it!) I’ve been keeping up with taking photos along the road and I’d like to give you a little glimpse into the land of tour with my favorite pix. Just click on the thumbnail to view a larger/complete version. Enjoy!

Gilbert and Cam with their idol, PBR man in Las Cruces at the epic Halloween house show! (10/31/09) Cam is a nerd, and Gilbert is a “professional Bocci Ball player”. Yes IT’S A REAL THING. Don’t argue. Oh, this is after he put on pants, before he had on short shorts and high socks, it really completed the look.
PBR and friends, Halloween '09 in Las Cruces

Finn Riggins vs. The Grand Canyon!

The Grand Canyon

As far as a current update goes, we got into SLC last night, and will head towards home tomorrow for a very short break on Sunday. Then, off we go again on the much anticipated Built To Spill jaunt until Thanksgiving! This tour has been amazing so far. So many sights to be seen, and so many awesome people along the way. Thanks to everyone who has given us their floorspace/couches/mattresses to sleep on, food from their kitchens, hot water from their bathrooms, and thanks to gas station cashier angels for pointing us in the right direction when we’re not sure where to go next.

’til next time (which I promise will be sooner than next year),

~Rachael

wildlands

Nov 4th, 2009 Posted in News, finn riggins | 1 Comment »

just spent a couple of epic days amongst the wildlands and national parks of northern arizona and southern utah after an epic Halloween night in Las Cruces, NM. been a great couple of days on top of a great tour already. lots of photos have been taken, not so many uploaded just yet. soon enough though… hung out at the Grand Canyon on Monday for several hours, Cam and i did some climbing to dangle our legs over the edge into the abyss… ate some Navajo tacos… stared in awe at the massive dam holding Lake Powell into it’s place… watched the full moon rise up above it… ran around on dunes of the finest and smoothest sand i’ve ever felt (and it’s pink!) by the light of the full moon then built a campfire nearby and listened to the elk bugle and the coyotes howl all night as we slept outside in the brisk fall air, moon lighting the landscape damn near as bright as the day… woke up and drove scenic HWY 12 through Red Canyon and Bryce Canyon and Escalante and Boulder Mountain… and we haven’t seen a cloud in the sky in 5 days since Eugene 3 weeks ago… or so it seems… lots of reasons to love the road… but admittedly am excited to sleep in my own bed this sunday. but first, show in Salt Lake City tonight, then Logan tomorrow, Pocatello friday and Rexburg saturday. see you all soon. thanks for all the love and support
